Sculpting Your Life: Exploring the Art and Craft of Memoir

October 9 - 12, 2016

A Writer’s Retreat for Men and Women

If you’re thinking about this workshop you weren’t born yesterday. You’ve lived and loved, won and lost, celebrated and grieved. You have a lot of stories to tell. But what’s the story line that best defines the narrative arc of your life? Where did you start and where are you going? What did you discover along the way? What’s calling out to be shared? Why tell your story at all and for whom?

And then there are the naughty questions. What to tell and what to edit out? How to write about people who are still alive?

Every life has good bones. Even if you’re not sure what the bones of your life look like, they’re in there somewhere. You just have to write. And write. And write some more. That’s what we’ll do together.

The hope is that the narrative arc of your life – of the story you most want to tell — will poke out its head and greet you. And you’ll be excited to see yourself in the mirror of the pages, and in the mirror of the other good people who have come together to make meaning and share the legacy of their life.

In this 4-day workshop you will:

  • Write, write, write, about authentic emotion and experience
  • Find your voice
  • Identify one or more narrative arcs in your life
  • Write 3 or 4 short stories
  • Toast the muse
  • Find meaning and inspiration
  • Laugh, cry, celebrate, and heal
  • Have a great vacation in a beautiful, sacred place upon the Earth
